This coursework requires students to discover and develop your leadership and management skills, while taking account of an inclusive consideration of organisational cultures in the complex global environment. As local and global organisations operate in an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environment, it becomes imperative to investigate the aspects of an individual’s ability to lead self and others in the contemporary business environment and global society.

  1. Briefly introduce two global organisations – either ones you have worked for or organisations known for their strong organisational management practices. Provide a succinct overview of their key leaders and analyse their dominant leadership styles. Identify relevant leadership theories to justify your critique.
  2. Investigate the similarities and differences between these business leaders in terms of their leadership types and traits. Assess how these characteristics have potentially influenced organisational culture, top-down communication, mutual trust, and employee motivation effectiveness.
  3. Discuss the potential challenges associated with such leadership styles, particularly in the context of a dynamic business environment characterised by global VUCA forces. Apply leadership and management concepts to support your evaluation.
  4. Develop a personal leadership aspiration strategy based on your work experiences and various insights gained from the appraisal of your selected business leaders. Expand on how your personal leadership development strategy could improve overall organisational structure and communication, and your teamworking and people management skills at the workplace.
