Introduction to health inequalities

• Briefly define ‘health inequality’ in your own words
• Briefly introduce some of the key concepts of health inequality which will be applied to your chosen case study in the rest of your presentation
• Link these health inequalities to the specific challenges faced by the social group in your chosen case study.
• What are the structural barriers that affect the social groups in your case study.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO INCLUDE INFORMATION ABOUT SOCIAL DETERMINANTS

• Examples of ecological models include: Salmon’s Ecological Model and Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model. There are others. Conduct research to find the most appropriate for your case study.

THE FOCUS MUST BE ON ECOLOGICAL MODELLING!

Ecological model.

• Introduce the ecological model you have chosen.
• Explain why you have chosen this model.
• Explain why this model has relevance to the social group in your case study.
• Explain how this model examines how systems, environments, and policies create unequal health outcomes.
• Link any data in the case studies that identifies trends in health inequalities, give the factors that are being focused on from your case study (Knowledge from slide 19 to 22 in week 1 day 1 pm can help with this)
• Apply the model to health inequalities issues in context of your chosen case study. Week 1 day 1 and 2 can help with this.
• Identify the individual factors affecting the social groups in the case study.
• Identify muti – level framework to understand how social, economic, environmental and policy factors interact to create disparities in health outcomes in your chosen case study.

Appraise Relevant Indicators of Health Inequality

• Identify specific health inequality indicators which are present in the social group described in your chosen case study.
• Analyse how these health inequality indicators suggest or demonstrate health inequalities
• Identify trends and patterns and apply them to your chosen case study

Critique and evaluate the concepts of inequality, discrimination, and anti-oppressive practice

• Identify some factors contributing to health inequalities in the social group of your chosen social group.
• Evaluate how and why these factors impact health inequalities within the social group in your chosen case study.
• Consider how these factors influence access to care and outcomes.
• Define anti-oppressive practice and how it addresses health inequalities, referring to the social group in your chosen case study.
• Critique anti-oppressive practice, considering its strengths and weaknesses focusing on the specific health inequalities experienced by the social group in your chosen case study

Community services and social systems

• Describe some community services which are available in the UK to address the health inequality challenges experienced by
  social groups in your chosen case study.
• Based on your analysis throughout the presentation, defend how these community services help and contribute to the delivery of healthcare and reduce inequalities by overcoming barriers to care in diverse communities.
• Evaluate how effective these services are, the benefits they give, and any limitations you can identify.
