John is a 53-year-old male who presents with obesity, demonstrated by a body mass index (BMI) of 38, and a strangulated, painful right inguinal hernia. His past medical history includes obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), which he manages at home using a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device.
