Task Overview

Students will analyze a contemporary HR issue related to strategic human resource planning, incorporating relevant theories and frameworks.

Word Limit: 1500 words (excluding executive summary, table of contents, and references)

Topic: Strategic Human Resource Planning in the Age of AI

This assessment explores how strategic HR planning must adapt to AI and robotic technologies, focusing on their impact in the health, retail, education, or hospitality sectors.

Discussion Questions

  1. Industry Impacts and HR Automation:
    • Choose one sector (health, retail, education, or hospitality).
    • Analyze how AI and robotic technologies will transform jobs in that sector.
    • Identify HR tasks that could be automated to support workforce transitions.
  2. Employee Concerns and Strategic Planning:
    • What concerns might employees have regarding AI integration in their jobs and HR processes (e.g., recruitment)?
    • How can strategic HR planning address these concerns?
  3. Maximizing Benefits and Fairness:
    • How can HR professionals develop strategies that maximize the advantages of AI while ensuring fair and consistent HR practices?

Context

The last two decades have seen significant changes in the workplace due to the Internet of Things (IoT) and the e-economy. AI has driven employment growth, particularly in the gig economy through platforms such as Uber and Airtasker. While AI and machine learning offer potential benefits in HRM, concerns around privacy, accountability, and bias remain (Nankervis et al., 2023).

A structured report format is required, including:

Presentation Guidelines

  • Use peer-reviewed academic journals, business reports, and reputable websites as sources.
  • Minimum 10 references, including at least 5 academic journal articles.
  • Follow APA 7 referencing style: APA Guide.
  • Use Times New Roman or Arial, 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing.
  • Ensure grammar and spelling are checked before submission.
  • Submit as a Word document.
