1.1. Assessment brief:

You are a consultant and your client is GRUPO HERDEZ SA DE CV (thereafter Herdez); a Mexican Multinational and a leader in the canned/preserved food industry. Herdez is considering expansion into new Emerging Markets in the regions of Europe, the Middle East and/or Asia. Your task is to suggest a single Emerging Market (EM) which is argued to offer Herdez opportunities for
growth.
In doing so, you are required to:
• Justify the selection of this particular EM
• Identify institutional voids expected in this context
• Critically discuss strategies for addressing the identified institutional voids
• Discuss the impact of either
- (i) the rise of Industry 4.0
OR
- (ii) the rise of Global Value Chains,
on Herdez in the selected EM.

1.2. KEY AREAS OF DISCUSSION

You need to make sure your report covers the essential requirements of the discussion. You can expand beyond these where necessary:

1. Justify your choice of the EM for entry by Herdez (specify if you are only referring to certain product lines or Herdez as a whole). You can support your answer by using theoretical tools, such as PEST or CAGE.

2. Identify and analyse institutional voids (capital, labour, product and regulatory voids) that are relevant to Herdez in the suggested market.

3. Discuss the possible strategies to be used in response to these institutional voids.

4. Choose one of the trends suggested (either (i) the rise of Industry 4.0; or (ii) the rise of GVCs) and suggest the opportunities and challenges that might be available to Herdez in the new EM as a result.
