Assignment Task

You are required to write an individual 2,500-word portfolio, based on a choice of your organisation. The aim of this portfolio will be to evaluate and assess the fundamental characteristics of entrepreneurial organisations. You will be able to evaluate core business functions in relation to leadership and management styles with focus on motivational theories. You will focus on the importance of marketing for a business and see the importance of a business through an external lens.

  • A portfolio does not consist of images and is wholly done in academic writing (not first person as it is not a reflection).
  • Work on your own business plan or select a company of interest from below choices provided.
  • Critically discuss your chosen organisation relating to the topics studied in the lectures.

This module will be assessed though an individual portfolio answering the below three reflective questions:

  • What are the marketing strategies and operational strategies of your chosen organisation?
  • What are the characteristics of Leaders and Managers that are required by your chosen organisation?
  • What are the key challenges of your chosen organisation?

Provide a brief introduction of your chosen organisation (either entrepreneurial or traditional with clear definitions), including:

  • Its history, core products/services, and current market positioning.
  • Explain the product or service you have chosen (whether it is a new product or an existing product entering a new market).
  • Justify why you have selected this product/service.

Discuss the institutional and business environment of a particular country through the lens of the below aspects or other important points of your interests:

Discuss the marketing strategies and operational strategies for your chosen organisation, including:

Evaluate the characteristics of leaders and managers required for your chosen organisation, including:

  • The role of leaders, managers and their relationship to their teams. Bring in suitable theories studied in this session (Maslow, Herzberg, Hackman & Oldham).
  • How would your chosen organisation motivate their employees?
  • What techniques would they use and provide a rationale for your answer.
  • What is the organisational culture like? Provide rationale with suitable examples (2-3) of other successful businesses.
