Overview: You will search recent newspaper headlines (over the past five years) for articles that relate to education issues for ELLs (may include instruction, programs, materials, assessment practices, accountability measures, etc.). You will select three articles and connect what you have read with the historical, political, and legislative events that have shaped current educational policies for ELLs.

Content: Using the provided Word template, complete the following for each current event article:

• Summarize the current event article, highlighting the importance in regards to the education of ELLs
• Summarize the historical/political/legislative event, highlighting the importance in regards to the education of ELLs.
• Discuss how the historical/political/legislative event/policy relates to your current event (ie. Explain how it supports/provides foundation/guides what occurred in your current event article; how the law protects ELLs; issues with implementation, etc.) Please select a DIFFERENT event for each of your articles.
